Importance of A Target Market

It is a proven strategy that creating a product that can be targeted to a specific customer or market insures its greatest success.  This fact is even truer for a small business and price.  Small business enterprises are usually launched at small-scale where there is either one specific product or service that is being offered to the market or there is a limited number of quantity available.

To make the full advantage of their production it is beneficial for you to be able to target a specific consumer for your product.  While doing business and selling something in the market there is something called the conversion rate that is taken into consideration to determine the possibility of that very product or service.

The Conversion Ratio

Launching a product and targeting it to the specific consumer that either has the need for it or is likely to buy such a product means that you will have a high conversion ratio.  Conversion ratio is the ratio between the number of people who come across your product by means of advertising and marketing and the number of people who actually end up buying it.  If your product matches the profile of a specific segment of the consumer community than more of these people are likely to convert to buying customers.  Targeting a market is important as the conversion ratio from mere consumer to buying customer will be low if you try to target one and all people.

Defining Consumer Profile
In order to define a target market for your particular craft you need to understand the profile of the people who are more likely to buy it.  For example, if it is an expensive product then you will be targeting the higher structure of the society where quality will be more important than quantity.  You may also be producing cheap but beautiful crafts where discount will be a big factor.  In this case you will be targeting people who are looking to spend a small amount for a relatively small product.  This segment is no doubt larger than that of the upper stratus element but the competition in this segment is stiff.

Defining Target Market
There are various ways of defining the target market for your craft business.  You can either work with deciding on a segment that you want to target and then she your craft accordingly or you can decide on making a particular craft and research the market see where exactly and at home it should be targeted.
